Lastly, the demo showed off a new mechanic: siege mode. ![]() Of course, no player is guaranteed to be friendly so you can never be too sure when hitting that invite button. There will need to be a very dense population of online players in the game world for this to be a reality. I hope this is how it will be in the game when it launches. It was shown how useful this can be when approaching a larger, more powerful enemy ship - just look around and see if you can find any players to invite. If you see another player ship you can literally invite them to join you with just the press of a button. The demo also showed off how seamlessly other players can join you in battle. It’s highly probable that you can fire back and potentially destroy these forts, however, none of that was shown in the demo. To combat this, the demo showed that you can take the sails of a downed ship (provided it’s one of their own) and set them on your ship as a big disguise, which will let you sail safely past the fort. Depending on your sails, these forts can be hostile and open fire as you sail around them. Like in Black Flag, forts will be prevalent in this game. There are a few interesting things to note when it comes to the meat and potatoes of the game: naval combat. It also could just be that they wanted to leave that aspect out of the demo trailer shown at the conference. I think this is subject to change as it’s hard to imagine a pirate game like this without being able to use currency. As of now it doesn’t look like there’s currency to use in these shops the items seem to unlock in a progression system. These weapons have their own stats, giving depth to your pre-voyage choices. You can also buy ship weapons for the bow, broadsides and artillery like mortars and rockets. I assume you can also customize your sails and likely your pirate. You can buy cosmetic items like the helm, wheel and figureheads. It’s worth noting that before setting sail, you do get to walk around an on-foot hub area where you can visit merchants to upgrade your ship. Maybe Ubisoft Singapore will add the feature in before launch, or as a post launch patch/ update. I understand that you won’t be able to run around islands and such but I would’ve loved to at least be able to physically board enemy ships and wreak havoc with my character. The animation then cuts back to you piloting your ship as you move on to the next activity. It’s true that when you board enemy ships an animation plays out showing your crew swinging over, dispatching the other pirates, and stealing treasure. However, there is enough difference to make Skull and Bones worth a look.įirst off, last year at the debut I was disappointed that you can’t walk around and explore with your character. Yes, the game is still quite similar to the naval combat of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Hello, fellow readers!
